Port Edgar Yacht Club will be welcoming all of the 707 teams to what should be a bonanza event on the Forth estuary near Edinburgh.
The waters of the Forth are great for sailing with just enough tide and interesting options to create tremendous courses and great sailing conditions.
We are aiming for 12 championship races over 4 days, and for good-wind reasons, these will be held away from the bridges in good established event areas.
However we have also proposed a 'Bridge Race' as a pre-event race. This will take place under the three iconic Forth bridges. It should really be some spectacle.
This year we are aiming for at least 30 boats to be on the start line. There were twenty two boats at the last event on the Forth under the auspices of Royal Forth YC. We move slightly up river to Port Edgar for his event. A fleet this size obviously produces 150+ competitors and therefore a fun social is also guaranteed.
In true Scottish generosity it currently looks like we have arranged for:
On-site, free camping
Free lift-in and out, and Free berthing
All you have to do is hitch that boat up and we'll welcome you, help with your boat if required, and help you drink that beer too -nothing will be too much trouble.
Socially we have every evening covered with welcome drinks, food, big boat cruise/bbq, hog roast, and a final dinner with live music. And if you haven't had enough socialising after that here are also some great pubs in the village only a few hundred yards away.
We've arranged for the Championship racing to start at 2pm which will allow competitors to perhaps arrive on the Thursday morning which may help with those tight work timetables - only 2 days off are required if you can get there for Thursday morning. The prize giving will be prompt on the Sunday to allow boats to be lifted out and you to leave to be work refreshed, or knackered, bright and early on Monday.
Early entry is recommended - we know that you've got to book those days off..
